Fancy a career change or hoping to attract new staff to your business? Find out which jobs are topping the most desirable lists in Australia for a taste of what’s hot.
LinkedIn’s list of Australia’s Most in Demand Employers: 2013 reveals that while tech companies remain popular, there are plenty of candidates looking to get work with construction, energy and mining companies.
The list saw mining giant Rio Tinto come out on top, followed by Leighton Contractors, Google, John Holland and Origin Energy. Microsoft took sixth place, just ahead of resources and energy firm WorleyParsons.
While tech companies had a notable presence on the list, they make a much smaller showing in Australia than they do in other countries – the global list was headed by Google, trailed by Apple, Unilever, Procter & Gamble, Microsoft and Facebook.
Unlike the rest of the world, Australia’s top companies reflect a strong mining and resource economy. In fact, mining engineers are among the top five highest paid jobs in Australia, following anaesthetists, internal medicine specialists, other medical practitioners and dentists.
SEEK Learning has also revealed a selection of jobs that have been increasing in popularity in recent years, citing diamond and gemstone mining as one of Australia’s top five industries for the future. Others key growth areas include aged care and childcare, both of which have exhibited a real increase in demand over recent years.
That being said, SEEK Learning’s Hot jobs 2013 list also reveals that employment in IT has grown almost 16 per cent over the last year and that jobs for network professionals and web developers are expected to grow by more than 11 per cent.
